ABC (Adult, Child and Baby) Quilts are made by members of MPQ and donated to community support organizations. The quilts are then given to individuals and families, who for a variety of reasons, find themselves in stressful situations.
ABC Quilts has a history that stretches back more than two decades. It came about as a result of two MPQ members' involvement with a quilting group in Hawaii that made quilts for children with AIDS and children who had been abandoned. The two ladies returned to Winnipeg with a desire to provide quilts for children at risk and children in the hospital long term, and so it began. In 1990 the ABC Quilts committee was started. In the beginning, it was difficult to stimulate much interest in charity quilts with the membership of MPQ. With their perseverance and dedication, quilt donations that once averaged sixty quilts per year, has mushroomed to near a thousand quilts, afghans and travel pillows being donated, not only to the Children's Hospital, but six other agencies who requested quilts. The two founding committee members, Vivian Cameron and Jean Kresko, represent the spirit of generosity that can inspire all MPQ members.
Any questions may be directed to the wemaster, who will then refer them to the committee chair(s).
