Helen Maslowski - 2nd Vice President

I made my first quilt in the summer of 2002 while waiting for the arrival of my grandson. It was a Starblanket quilt. A girlfriend was a Home Ec. teacher in Fisher River and some elders along with her were teaching the students how to make a baby quilt. My second quilt, once again with her assistance, was called a "Weekend Star" quilt. Once I finished piecing it, I didn't know what to do with it next, so I put it away, and I did not start any more quilting projects.

In the fall of 2005, my daughter-in-law Brandy signed us up for the Pinewood Lodge Quilt Retreat at Dorothy Lake. Brandy made some kits for her Mom and I and each one of us made a Christmas table runner. It was there that I made friends with some of the ladies from the In-Stitches Satellite Group and they invited me to join their group as I lived in the area. From there on, my passion for quilting grew. In 2008 I finally finished my Weekend Star quilt and it proudly saddles my bed. On the advice of friends, I had a long arm quilter quilt it for me. Although my piecing is not perfect by any means, it is finished. Much has been learned since then, but there is so much more to learn before I will become an accomplished quilter. Now that I am retired (well, somewhat), I have more time to devote to quilting, but like many other quilters, I have many UFO's to finish.

I am looking forward to serving on the Executive and being part of this guild which has members who are so passionate about quilting, so knowledgable, and so willing to share their knowledge and experience.
